Weather update today: IMD predicts clear skies in Delhi amid heavy rainfall warnings for Southern and Central India

In the coming days until October 16, regions in Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu could witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity.

In its latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department has predicted that very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa today. Besides this, heavy rainfall is expected over regions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

In an update on October 10, the agency said that a well-marked low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea, near the Karnataka-Goa coasts, is expected to move northwestward and intensify into a depression over the central Arabian Sea in the next 2 to 3 days.

Meanwhile, in the coming days until October 16, regions in Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu could witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity. Similarly, Karnataka, Goa, ghat areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat region, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya could witness the same in 3-4 days.

Clear skies in Delhi

For Delhi, the predictions have mainly clear skies on the chart for today. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 22 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, the national capital saw clear skies as the maximum temperature rose to 34.5 degrees Celsius.

Widespread rainfall in Central India

For the week of October 17-23, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected across most areas of Central and South Peninsular India, the IMD has said.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in several regions, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, on multiple days throughout the week. Overall, rainfall is forecast to be above normal across most of Central and South Peninsular India, while it is likely to be below normal in other parts of the country.
