CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu cabinet gave the nod to 14 new projects, which will generate employment for 46,931 persons.
The Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting was held in the secretariat. This was the first cabinet meeting after the recent cabinet reshuffle and Udhayanidhi Stalin becoming deputy chief minister.

After the cabinet meeting, finance minister Thangam Thennarasu, speaking to reporters in the secretariat, said that the 14 new projects, which were approved, will be in various fields across the state.
Detailing the projects, Thangam Thennarasu said that investments will be related to printed circuit boards, low voltage panels, mobile phone spare parts and their covers, defence equipment, pharma-related manufacturing, non-leather footwear manufacturing, and renewable energy production such as green hydrogen and green ammonia production, as well as research of e-vehicles and telecommunication devices.

Speaking about the major projects and the places of investment, Thangam Thennarasu said that TATA Motors will be investing in Ranipet district to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore to provide employment to 5,000 persons.
In Kanchipuram, a subsidiary company of Foxconn will be investing Rs 13,180 crore to provide employment for about 14,000 persons, Thangam Thennarasu said.

Industries minister T R B Rajaa, speaking about the ongoing workers’ strike in Samsung, said that except for one, all their demands have been met, and the pending demand to recognise the CITU workers’ union is pending in the court.
Rajaa also said that since the issue is pending in the court and it is a matter of sub judice, it cannot be spoken about.
The industries minister also said that the strike may cast a bad opinion on the state and it might be misused by the opponents, and so gave a call for Samsung workers to stop their strike and resume work.
