Indian railways to operate 6,556 special trains for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja

Indian Railways on Monday announced that it has scheduled to operated 6,556 special trains from October 1 to November 30 to manage the increased travel demand during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.

An additional 12,500 coaches will be made available to enhance comfort and accessibility for passengers during Diwali an Chhath Puja. This is a significant increase from last year, when 4,429 special trains were deployed during the festive season.

South Western Railway is operating 24 special trains with 52 trips, provide temporary stoppages for three trains, and temporary augmentation of coaches for 34 trains to accommodate the increased passenger demand during the Dasara festival.

Additionally, for the Diwali, SWR will operate six special trains with eight trips from various locations across Karnataka. Other Zonal Railways have also notified the operation of 22 special trains with 264 trips.

Central Railways has announced 278 special trains for Diwali and Chhath. “Celebrate this Festive Season with Your Family! We are excited to announce 278 Special Trains for Diwali & Chhath Festivals apart from regular trains to make your travel seamless and enjoyable. Check detailed timings and halts of these trains at or on the NTES App,” it said in a post on X.

This move aims to ensure smooth travel and accessibility for passengers during the peak festive period.
