Government Announces Major Change: Green Ration Card Holders to Receive Rations Twice a Month

In a significant update to the State Food Security Scheme , the Jharkhand government has announced that holders of green ration cards will now receive rations twice a month. This change, implemented by Chief Minister Hemant Soren ’s administration, aims to better support the state’s most vulnerable citizens, especially as the festive season approaches.

# Key Changes in Ration Distribution

Previously, ration card holders in Jharkhand received their allotted rations only once a month. However, under the revised scheme:

Twice a Month Distribution: Green ration card holders will now collect rations two times each month.

Immediate Implementation : The distribution will start in October 2023, with beneficiaries receiving December’s rations from the 1st to the 15th, and October’s rations from the 16th to the 31st.

# Monthly Ration Schedule

Here’s the new schedule for the distribution of rations :

October 2023:

  • 1st to 15th: Ration for December 2023
  • 16th to 31st: Ration for October 2024

November 2023:

  • 1st to 15th: Ration for January 2024
  • 16th to 30th: Ration for November 2024

December 2023:

  • 1st to 15th: Ration for February 2024
  • 16th to 31st: Ration for December 2024

Expansion of Beneficiaries

In addition to the new ration distribution schedule, the Jharkhand cabinet has approved an expansion of the program:

  • Increase in Beneficiaries: The government plans to add 5 lakh new names to the list of green ration card holders.
  • Total Beneficiaries: This expansion will raise the total number of beneficiaries from 20 lakh to 25 lakh, enhancing support for those in need. Currently, there are approximately 17 lakh green ration card holders in the state.

These changes by the Jharkhand government represent a positive step towards alleviating food insecurity among its citizens. By increasing the frequency of ration distributions and expanding the beneficiary list, the government aims to ensure that more families have access to essential food supplies during challenging times.
