IMD Rainfall Alert: According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in several districts across West Bengal on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast has predicted further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of central and northwest India. Conditions are favorable for its continued retreat from the remaining regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Maharashtra over the next 2-3 days.
While the Met Office has predicted showers in several states in Eastern and Southern India, including West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, no significant rainfall is expected in Northwest, West, and Central India over the coming week.
Delhi weather forecast
The weather department has forecasted a mostly cloudy sky for the national capital on Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 36°C and 25°C, respectively.

Heavy rain in West Bengal ahead of Durga Puja
With Durga Puja fast approaching, residents preparing for last-minute shopping may face disruptions as the weather forecast casts uncertainty over their plans. The Alipore Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in several districts across West Bengal on Sunday. In South Bengal, including Kolkata, light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers is expected.
“There is a possibility of heavy rain in North Bengal, especially in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri districts. Rain is also likely in Cooch Behar, Malda, and South Dinajpur districts,” said Somnath Dutta, the Regional Director of the Alipore Meteorological Department.

East and Northeast India
In this region, widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected throughout the week, particularly in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, with continued isolated heavy rain over Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura through the week.
Southern India
Southern Peninsular India will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu and Kerala between October 6 and 11. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana will also see moderate rainfall during this period.
