Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday dropped a big hint while speaking on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, while addressing a rally in Badshahpur, Gurgaon.

He said the bill will be passed during Parliament’s winter session. Speaking at an election meeting in Badshahpur, Gurgaon, Shah stated, “Waqf board law… we will fix it in the next session of Parliament,” reported TOI.

The Opposition has opposed the bill, arguing it is based on unfounded concerns about current waqf boards and interferes with the religious rights of minorities. The government, however, maintains that the bill aims to ensure transparency in the operations of waqf authorities and limit their arbitrary powers.

A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by BJP’s Jagdambika Pal is currently reviewing the bill. The panel’s discussions have seen conflicts between opposition and BJP members. The JPC received 1.25 crore emails regarding the bill, prompting BJP MP Nishikant Dubey to call for a home ministry investigation into a possible plot to obstruct the legislation.

Shah, who held three rallies in Haryana on Sunday, promised 5 lakh government jobs with pensions for youths in the next five years if the BJP remains in power. He also reiterated his commitment to providing government jobs with pensions for Agniveers after they complete their four-year military service.

Highlighting the BJP’s focus on merit in job appointments, Shah said, “We will provide jobs to 5 lakh youths without any parchi and kharchi. Congress candidates are talking about the quota system in jobs. They don’t believe in merit, we do.”

Job creation has been a key issue in the lead-up to the assembly elections, with many candidates making employment promises. The Congress party has pledged 2 lakh jobs in its manifesto if elected.

Shah also criticized Rahul Gandhi, calling him a “lie machine” and accusing Congress of spreading false information about the Agnipath scheme, saying, “The scheme was brought to keep the Army young.” He went on to label Congress as a party of “dalal, dealer and damaad,” and accused it of benefitting specific communities and districts during its rule.
