IMD Weather Forecast Today: Yellow alert for heavy rainfall issued in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and THESE states

Rainfall Warning: Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecast over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan early in the week.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast has predicted enhanced rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the northeastern states for the next 5-6 days. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to see fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall during this period. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are also likely to experience similar conditions.

In contrast, northwest and central India are expected to witness dry weather over the coming week. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecast over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan early in the week, followed by a dry spell.

Southern states like Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall, while parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana will see scattered showers throughout the week.

Rain lashes Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has experienced continuous rainfall and adverse weather conditions in recent days. Above-average precipitation over the past 72 hours has exacerbated the flood situation. On Sunday, 45 out of the 75 districts reported excessive rainfall, according to data from the Indian Meteorological Department. Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami stated that relief efforts are being carried out urgently in the 11 flood-affected districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Bihar flood situation grim

The flood situation in Bihar remains critical, with embankment breaches reported along several rivers, particularly affecting districts near the Indo-Nepal border due to relentless rainfall. An alert has been issued for multiple districts as the IMD forecasts heavy rain and warns of potential flash floods in parts of the state. Areas such as West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani, and Bhojpur are expected to experience significant rainfall.

Yellow alert issued for Kerala

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala until October 5, issuing yellow alerts in nine districts through October 1. On September 30, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur are under alert. On October 1, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Idukki remain on yellow alert. The weather department warns of heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers across most parts of Kerala during this period.

Heavy rain in parts of Gujarat

The latest bulletin from the IMD indicates that most of Gujarat will remain dry during the first three days of Navratri, with the exception of a few districts in South Gujarat. According to the forecast, heavy rains are likely in isolated areas of Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Bharuch, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar districts in Saurashtra until Monday morning. However, there are no warnings for heavy rain for the following week.

From October 3-5, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in isolated areas of South Gujarat, including Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. On Sunday, Vadodara experienced 76 mm of rainfall within just two hours, leading to waterlogging in several areas and disrupting daily life.

Light rain in parts of Himachal

Light showers were recorded in several parts of Himachal Pradesh yesterday, however, the local meteorological department has predicted the weather to remain dry till October 5. The center reported that 148 power supply schemes in the state have been impacted.

Ahmedabad Weather Forecast

For the upcoming week, Ahmedabad is not expected to experience heavy, prolonged rainfall. However, from October 2 to October 4, partly cloudy skies are anticipated in the city.
