Major religious festivals such as Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas are also recognised as dry days, during which alcohol sales are not permitted. However, hotels with L-15 and L-15F licences will still be allowed to serve liquor to their resident guests.

The excise department clarified that no compensation will be provided to licensed shop owners for the loss of sales during these dry days. Licensees must strictly adhere to the order, as violations will result in penalties and fines. It is important to note that while retail sales are restricted, consumption of alcohol in licensed hotels remains allowed.
