DA Hike for State Govt Employees
In a significant move, the state government approved a 9% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for government employees. Previously, under the Sixth Central Pay Commission, employees were receiving a DA of 230%. The new hike raises it to 239%, which will provide financial relief to many state government employees.
The new DA rates will take effect from January 1, 2024. There were reports of the rising cost of living for government employees, on the basis of which these proposals might have been approved during the cabinet meeting.

Apart from the DA hike, the government made another important announcement. It decided to honor the families of Jharkhand’s martyred Agniveers similarly to how it honors the families of the state’s police martyrs. Hemant Soren said that the government’s intention was to show respect and provide support to the Agniveer families, including financial assistance and job opportunities.
“The Centre introduced the Agniveer scheme and everyone knows what reactions it faced in the country. Our government has decided to provide compensation and jobs to the families of Agniveers who come from Jharkhand in case of death during operations,” he said

Waiver On Rs 3,584 Crore For Power Dues
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the approval of a waiver on power dues, amounting to Rs 3,584 crore. This waiver benefits approximately 39.44 lakh consumers under the Mukhyamantri Urja Khushali Yojana, providing relief for those enrolled in the 200-unit free electricity scheme.
Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel confirmed the waiver, stating, “Following this cabinet approval, these consumers will no longer need to pay the arrear bills.” This decision aims to ease the financial burden on domestic consumers and demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
