Kangana Ranaut says only some people have an objection to her movie, Emergency.
Kangana Ranaut has opened up about the delay in the release of her latest movie, Emergency. The film, which was supposed to hit theatres on September 6, was postponed due to pending certification from the censor board. Several Sikh outfits have also opposed the film’s release, claiming it presents the community in a negative light.
However, the actress was speaking at the News18 India Chaupal event on Monday in New Delhi, when she argued that only some people have an objection to her movie. She questioned those defending Bhindranwale and made a strong statement saying he was not a saint but a terrorist.
“It is our history which has been intentionally hidden. We are not told about this. Bhale logo ka zamaana nahi hai,” Kangana said and then added, “My film is ready to be released. It has received certification from the censor board. 4 historians supervised our films. We have the proper documents. There is nothing wrong with my film. But some people call Bhindranwale a saint, revolutionary or a leader. They threatened via pleas (to ban her film). I have also received threats. Previous governments have declared Khalistanis as terrorists. He was not a saint who was sitting in a temple with an AK47.”

“Only some people have an objection to my film, they are also inciting others. I don’t think 99 per cent of the people of Punjab consider Bhindranwale a saint. He is a terrorist and if he is a terrorist, my film should be released,” Kangana said.
Kangana further explained that the postponement of her film also caused her a financial loss. “Till when will we continue to play safe? I do not think like this. I never thought people will have an objection to Bhindranwale being shown as a terrorist. I am being tortured. It is so embarrassing for me. We also faced losses. My movie was cancelled just 4 days back,” she said.

Kangana Ranaut is not just playing the lead in Emergency but is also directing it. Besides Kangana, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry and Shreyas Talpade among others. While Shreyas Talpade will be seen playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher will be seen as Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik will also be seen as Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram.
However, the film has been facing boycotts and ban calls. Several Sikh organisations have accused the film of presenting the community in the wrong light. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht have also demanded an immediate ban on the film, claiming it tries to “character assassinate” Sikhs by creating a narrative against them.
