The Hyderabad City Police have announced a temporary ban on alcohol sales to ensure public safety during the final stages of Ganesh idol immersions. This ban, issued by Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, will be in effect from 6 a.m. on September 17 to 6 p.m. on September 18. It covers all wine shops, toddy shops, and bars in both Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The ban has been implemented under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act, 1968. However, bars located in hotels and registered clubs are exempt from the restriction. Law enforcement officers, including Station House Officers (SHOs) and Additional Inspectors, have been instructed to strictly enforce this prohibition, with legal action to be taken against any violations.

According to a report in onindia.com, bars, restaurants, wine shops, pubs, and Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL) outlets are affected by this ban, though establishments with CL-4 (clubs) and CL-6A (star hotels) licenses are exempt. Specifically, in East and North East Bengaluru, alcohol sales are prohibited from 6 a.m. on September 14 until 6 a.m. on September 16.
Areas impacted include Commercial Street, Bharati Nagar, Shivajinagar, and Pulakeshinagar. Additionally, liquor sales in North and East Bengaluru were already restricted from 6 a.m. on September 14 to 6 a.m. on September 15 in areas like JC Nagar, RT Nagar, and Hebbal.
