The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for multiple states, predicting extremely heavy rainfall until September 18. The affected regions include Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall expected in South Jharkhand on September 15, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh from September 15 to 17, and West Madhya Pradesh on September 17 and 18.
The IMD attributes the extreme rainfall to a deep depression currently situated over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, which is driving the adverse weather conditions.
IMD’s Orange Alert Issued
An orange alert has been issued today, September 15, for several states, including Odisha, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, alerts are in place for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for September 15 and 16, and for Assam and Meghalaya from September 18 to 20.
In Northwest India, isolated heavy rains are predicted for East Uttar Pradesh on September 16 and 17, and West Uttar Pradesh on September 17. In South India, the forecast includes scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep, with isolated to scattered rainfall expected in other regions throughout the week.
Fishermen Advisory and Wind Warnings
The IMD has also issued a fishermen warning, advising against venturing into the northern Bay of Bengal and the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, and Odisha until the morning of September 16 due to expected rough sea conditions. Squally winds with speeds of 45-55 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, are anticipated over Gangetic West Bengal (including Kolkata) and nearby areas in North Odisha and Jharkhand from the night of September 14 until the morning of September 15.
Furthermore, winds reaching 40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h, are forecasted for North Chhattisgarh and neighboring regions of East Madhya Pradesh and Southeast Uttar Pradesh from the evening of September 15 through the evening of September 16.
Residents and travelers in the affected areas are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the severe weather conditions
