Mumbai Western Railway: 12 New Trains And 10 Upgraded To 15-Car Rakes Starting October 1

Starting October 1, Mumbai’s Western Railway (WR) will roll out 12 new train services, bringing its total daily services to 1,406.

Additionally, 10 existing trains will be upgraded from 12-car to 15-car rakes, a move aimed at enhancing passenger comfort.

According to The Indian Express, a senior railway official, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared that these changes are part of the Indian Railways’ annual timetable update, which the Railway Board mandates every October.

While timetable revisions usually affect both suburban and long-distance trains, WR will only tweak suburban services for now. Long-distance train adjustments will be made in January to minimize passenger disruptions.

One notable change includes shifting a rake from the CSMT-Borivali Harbour route to the Churchgate-Virar route.

The new services will cover several routes:

  • Four trains between Dadar and Virar
  • One train between Virar and Churchgate
  • One train between Borivali and Churchgate
  • Two trains between Churchgate and Andheri
  • Three trains between Churchgate and Goregaon
  • One train between Churchgate and Nalasopara

Additionally, six services will be extended, with three in each direction, and 16 services will undergo operational changes, including some switching from slow to fast services.

With these updates, WR will increase its 15-car trains from 199 to 209, improving capacity and convenience for passengers.

In November last year, WR boosted 79 air-conditioned 12-car services to 96, and in October 2022, services were increased from 1,375 to 1,383. The number of 15-car services also rose from 79 to 106, while AC services went up from 48 to 79.
