Apple launched the Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4 alongside the iPhone 16 series at its annual fall event on Monday, September 9. On any given day, the general impression would be that the new iPhones would be the biggest draw, and while true mostly, the Apple Watch and AirPods updates for 2024 are as exciting, if not more.

It’s truer about the Series 10 and there is reason why it feels that way. This new smartwatch, which marks 10-years of the industry leading product line, packs a slew of big upgrades, the biggest being the new and improved display that makes the Watch Ultra 2 look small.
If that wasn’t enough, Apple also added a depth gauge and water temperature sensor inside it, giving buyers one more reason to consider it over the Ultra (which sadly didn’t get any update this year apart from a new black titanium finish). We’re not saying the Series 10 will replace the Ultra 2, or that it is better, but the relatively lower price surely makes a stronger case for it now than say with last year’s Series 9. The Series 10 is the Apple Watch that most people can and should consider.
Any new Apple Watch launch would be incomplete without useful new health metrics. The Series 10 serves as the launchpad for sleep apnea detection though it won’t remain an exclusive there for long as Apple has confirmed it will come to the Series 9 and Ultra 2 through a software update soon.
Despite the new sleeker, more durable design (you have a titanium option in place of stainless steel now), bigger (42- and 46-mm) brighter display, more powerful and efficient S10 SiP, and faster charging (80 percent in 20 minutes claimed), prices haven’t gone up by much.

Cut to the AirPods, keeping in line with rumour mills, Apple did release a pair of new models at its iPhone 16 series launch event. Both are called the AirPods 4. One of them replaces the AirPods 3 and packs higher-end features including active noise cancellation, an integrated speaker for Find my location tracking, and wireless charging. Apple calls them the AirPods 4 with ANC. The other option, called simply the AirPods 4, is a more affordable option that replaces the ageing AirPods 2. Both the AirPods 4 with ANC and AirPiods 4, have the same H2 chip and high-excursion Apple driver. In a word, they should sound the same, or close. We can’t wait to dind out how things pan out in the real world once we have them for testing.
