IndiGo offers 20% discount in month-long ‘add-ons fiesta’

IndiGo has launched a month-long “Add-ons Fiesta”, offering customers a flat 20 percent discount on services, India’s biggest airline said in a statement on September 5.

The offer comes as airfares soar ahead of the festival season, a busy times for airlines as people head home for celebrations or go on holidays.

This promotion, which can be availed through the air carrier’s website and mobile app, is available on domestic and international sectors on services such as seat selection, excess baggage, priority check-in, and meal combinations. The discount can be availed on bookings till September 30.

Customers can select their preferred seating, through the Seat Select feature. They can also pre-book additional baggage or sports equipment.

The Fast Forward service provides priority check-in and boarding. Additionally, 6E Prime and 6E Seat & Eat allow travellers to combine seat selection with meal choices, along with priority services, ensuring a smooth and personalised journey, the airline said.

Airlines such as IndiGo, Vistara and Air India Express have been offering discounts but that has done little for airfares that have skyrocketed.

Vistara’s Freedom Sale on August 15 featured one-way domestic fares starting at Rs 1,578, while Air India Express’ Flash Sale offered fares as low as Rs 1,037 for bookings made by August 25.Travellers looking to book flights for Diwali, Durga Puja and Dussehra are faced with steep fares.

Airfares to popular destinations such as Goa and Jaipur have risen by 15-20 percent for October and November, Rajnish Kumar, group co-CEO of Ixigo, a travel platform, said.

Advance flight bookings for the festival period surged 30-35 percent from the previous year, adding to the price pressure.

At 12.29, the stock of IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation was trading at Rs 4,833.45 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.38 percent from the previous close.
