Indian Railways announces special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja – Check list here

Indian railways has announced special train services for the upcoming festive season – Diwali and Chhath Puja.

In view of the anticipated surge in passenger demand, Indian Railways has announced the operation of two special trains connecting Chennai and Santragachi. These services are aimed at enhancing connectivity and accommodating the increased travel needs during the upcoming festive season – Diwali and Chhath Puja. Advance reservations for these special trains are now open.

Dr. MGR Chennai Central  – Santragachi Weekly Specials

The first set of special trains, operating on the Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Santragachi route, includes Train No. 06089, which will depart from Dr. MGR Chennai Central at 13:30 hrs every Wednesday, starting September 4, 2024. The train will reach Santragachi at 20:50 hrs the following day. This service will continue weekly until November 27, 2024, offering a total of 13 trips. 

The return service, Train No. 06090, will depart Santragachi at 23:40 hrs every Thursday, starting September 5, 2024, and is scheduled to arrive at Dr. MGR Chennai Central at 09:00 hrs on the third day. This train will also run weekly until November 28, 2024, providing 13 services.

The coach composition for these trains includes 1 AC Three Tier Coach, 6 Sleeper Class Coaches, 12 General Second Class Coaches, and 2 Luggage cum Brake Vans. 

Key timings and stoppages for Train No. 06089 include Gudur (16:03 / 16:05), Nellore (16:38 / 16:40), Ongole (18:23 / 18:25), Vijayawada (20:15 / 20:25), Rajahmundry (22:35 / 22:38), Samalkot (23:28 / 23:30), Duvvada (02:30 / 02:35), Vizianagaram (03:45 / 03:55), Palasa (05:48 / 05:50), Khurda Road (08:40 / 08:55), Bhubaneswar (09:35 / 09:40), Cuttack (10:12 / 10:15), Bhadrak (15:20 / 15:25), Balasore (16:23 / 16:25), Kharagpur (18:25 / 18:30), and Santragachi (20:50 Thursday). For Train No. 06090, arrival timings include Gudur (06:05 / 06:07), Nellore (05:30 / 05:32), Ongole (03:47 / 03:49), Vijayawada (01:05 / 01:15), Rajahmundry (19:40 / 19:43), Samalkot (18:45 / 18:50), Duvvada (16:55 / 17:00), Vizianagaram (15:40 / 15:50), Palasa (13:38 / 13:40), Khurda Road (09:30 / 09:45), Bhubaneswar (08:55 / 09:00), Cuttack (08:22 / 08:25), Bhadrak (04:55 / 05:00), Balasore (03:43 / 03:45), Kharagpur (01:35 / 01:40), and Dr. MGR Chennai Central (09:00 Saturday).

Tambaram – Santragachi Weekly Specials

The second set of special trains will operate on the Tambaram – Santragachi route. Train No. 06095 will depart from Tambaram at 13:00 hrs every Thursday, starting September 5, 2024, and will arrive in Santragachi at 20:50 hrs the following day. This service will be available weekly until November 28, 2024, with 13 trips in total.

The return service, Train No. 06096, will leave Santragachi at 23:50 hrs every Friday, starting September 6, 2024, and is scheduled to reach Tambaram at 09:45 hrs on the third day. This service will also run weekly until November 29, 2024, providing 13 services.

The coach composition for these trains includes 3 AC Three Tier Coaches, 8 AC Three Tier Economy Coaches, 2 Sleeper Class Coaches, 1 Second Class Coach (Divyangjan Friendly), and 1 Luggage cum Brake Van. 

Key timings and stoppages for Train No. 06095 include Chennai Egmore (13:35 / 13:40), Gudur (16:03 / 16:05), Vijayawada (20:15 / 20:25), Rajahmundry (22:35 / 22:38), Samalkot (23:28 / 23:30), Duvvada (02:30 / 02:35), Vizianagaram (03:45 / 03:55), Palasa (05:48 / 05:50), Khurda Road (08:40 / 08:55), Bhubaneswar (09:35 / 09:40), Cuttack (10:12 / 10:15), Bhadrak (15:20 / 15:25), Balasore (16:23 / 16:25), Kharagpur (18:25 / 18:30), and Santragachi (20:50 Friday).
