The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday (August 29) imposed a Rs 10 lakh penalty on Air India Express for failing to provide compensation to passengers affected by cancelled flights. This action follows a June inspection under the Annual Surveillance Programme (ASP) 2024, which assessed compliance with regulations regarding passenger facilities and compensation.
Show-Cause Notice Issued
During the inspection, DGCA officials discovered that Air India Express was not meeting the requirements set out in CAR Section-3, Series M, Part IV. The airline was found to be in violation of the rules intended to ensure passengers receive compensation for disruptions caused by flight cancellations. In response to these findings, the DGCA issued a show-cause notice to the airline.
The airline’s subsequent reply confirmed its failure to adhere to compensation provisions for affected passengers. As a result, the DGCA has levied a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India Express. The DGCA continues to monitor and enforce regulations across the aviation sector to ensure that airlines operate within the prescribed guidelines.
