This day is known as Krishna Janmashtami, Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, and Sree Jayanthi, it celebrates Lord Krishna’s birth. This year’s Janmashtami will be celebrated on Monday, August 26, 2024.

Stock Market Holidays August 2024

The NSE supports trading throughout the year to ensure an excellent trading experience. During regular weekday trading hours, dealers have a six-hour and fifteen-minute window from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The stocks, equity derivatives, and SLB divisions will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Along with weekends, the NSE holiday calendar includes national and cultural observances.

Will NSE, BSE open on Janmashtami?

This year, Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 26. Thus, the equities, equity derivative section, and SLB segment will remain open for trade. The public holiday list applies to the capital markets, futures, and options divisions as well.

According to a circular issued by the NSE last year, the stock market will remain closed for 14 days or there will be 14 trading holidays in 2024.

Stock Market on Thursday

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty advanced on Thursday, following a firm trend in global markets along with buying in blue-chip stocks such as Airtel, ICICI Bank and Titan.

The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 147.89 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 81,053.19. The NSE Nifty index advanced for for the sixth straight session. It opened on a flat note and consolidated during the day, before ending the weekly expiry session with gains of 41.30 points or 0.17 per cent at 24,811.50.

NSE and BSE – both the stock exchanges have similar holiday days, which include:

  • October 2nd, 2024: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
  • November 1st, 2024: Diwali Laxmi Pujan
  • November 15th, 2024: Gurunanak Jayanti
  • December 25th, 2024: Christmas
