IMD predicted “heavy rainfall” in Jammu and Kashmir for the next two days, in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until August 20, in Delhi until August 20, and in Uttar Pradesh until August 22.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert predicting heavy rainfall today across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The alert comes with warnings of potentially severe weather conditions in specific districts.
In Kerala, the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam are expected to experience very heavy rainfall ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm. The orange alert continues through Sunday and Monday for Kottayam, Idukki, and Kozhikode, with similar warnings for Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam.

The authorities have also issued an orange alert for the Manimala River in Kottayam, where water levels have breached normal limits. Authorities have cautioned residents living near the river, advising them to move to safer locations, and warned of possible sea incursions along the coastal areas. People are also urged to avoid night travel in high ranges and refrain from river activities during heavy rainfall.
Over the next five days, the IMD forecasts “widespread light to moderate rainfall” in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, “scattered to fairly widespread rainfall” in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and “scattered rainfall” in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.
