Stock Market Holiday on Raksha Bandhan: As we approach the third week of August, the month when India celebrates its 78th Independence Day, it is critical to be informed of the key stock market holidays. In August, there is just one national holiday, and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed that day.

The stock market is closed on August 15th to observe India’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on Thursday. The market will reopen on Friday and stay closed on Saturday and Sunday. However, there is still dispute over whether the market would be open on Monday, August 19th, Raksha Bandhan.

Stock Market Holidays August 2024

The NSE supports trading throughout the year to ensure an excellent trading experience. During regular weekday trading hours, dealers have a six-hour and fifteen-minute window from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The stocks, equity derivatives, and SLB divisions will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Along with weekends, the NSE holiday calendar includes national and cultural observances.

Stock Market on Friday

The equity benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty rose strongly on Friday, reflecting a surge in global markets and buying in IT firms and Reliance Industries. The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 1,330.96 points, or 1.68 percent, to settle at 80,436.84. The NSE Nifty reached a triple century today, adding 397.40 points or 1.65% to finish at 24,541.15.

On the sectoral front, all indices ended in the green. The Nifty Bank index, which follows the banking sector and consists of 12 banking firms, closed 789.60 points, or 1.59% higher, at 50,516.90. The Nifty IT, Auto, and Realty indices all gained by more than 2%. In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indexes rose 1.96 percent and 1.93 percent, respectively.
