Mumbai Woman Tries To End Life By Jumping Off Atal Setu, Saved By Her Cab Driver, Cops In Dramatic Rescue | Video

A 57-year-old woman, who was on the verge of falling into the sea from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge (Atal Setu) in Nhava Sheva, was bravely saved by a cab driver and the traffic police on Friday.

In the CCTV footage, which went viral among the netizens, the cab driver can be seen grabbing the woman with her hair just as she attempted to jump off the bridge.

The police said they received a call about the car stopping and the woman crossing the rail.

“After police was alerted about her presence, a patrolling vehicle rushed to the spot. When police approached her, she lost balance and was about to plunge into the sea. But an cab driver and the traffic police personnel held her just in time and managed to save her,” a police official said as reported by news agency PTI.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 7pm. As per the report, the woman, hailing from Mulund, had asked 31-year-old Sanjay Yadav to stop the cab on the bridge. As per the visuals, the woman was sitting on the safety barrier of Atal Setu. She then throwed something into the sea and attempted to jump off.

The woman, upon seeing the police, purportedly tried to jump into the sea but was saved by the driver who held her by her hair. The team comprising of police constables Lalit Amarshet , Kiran Mhatre, Yash Sonawane had climbed over the railing and caught hold of the women who was initially held by cab driver.

The woman was then taken to the police station in Navi Mumbai and her family members were alerted. In the statement that she gave to Nhava Sheva police, she claimed that she was immersing the photos of gods as a part of some ritual.

Earlier in July, a 38-year-old engineer allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu to end his life because of stress due to financial worries.
