SpiceJet will lead the way by shifting 13 flights to the new terminal on August 17, with IndiGo following suit on September 2, relocating 34 flights from Terminals 2 and 3.
The long-awaited expansion of Terminal 1 (T-1) at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is set to commence operations from today, August 17. Reportedly, the older T-1 building is currently undergoing repairs, and only the new expanded terminal will be accessible to the public. This significant development is part of the Phase 3A expansion project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10. Following a tragic incident on June 28 where a part of the metal canopy over Terminal 1 collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in death of a person, flight operations for IndiGo and SpiceJet were temporarily relocated to Terminals 2 and 3.

Regarding the terminal’s launch, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, said, “The state-of-the-art Terminal 1 will significantly boost our capacity, easing pressure on Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers can expect a smoother travel experience with improved amenities and advanced technology.”
In preparation for the terminal’s reopening, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has worked closely with airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet to facilitate a smooth transition back to Terminal 1. SpiceJet will lead the way by shifting 13 flights to the new terminal on August 17, with IndiGo following suit on September 2, relocating 34 flights from Terminals 2 and 3.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The new terminal boasts cutting-edge features aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency. Notable facilities include the Queue-Buster Mobile Check-in Service, Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS), Individual Carrier System (ICS), Common Usage Self Service (CUSS), Aerobridges, and Self Baggage Drop (SBD) kiosks. These advancements are designed to streamline check-in processes and minimize waiting times.
DIAL has implemented clear signage within the airport premises and on roadways to guide passengers effectively. Additionally, RAXA guards will be stationed throughout the terminal to provide assistance and direct passengers to the appropriate areas for IndiGo and SpiceJet flights. This concerted effort aims to offer a seamless and pleasant travel experience for all passengers utilizing Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Specific entry points for passengers
To ensure passenger convenience, specific entry points have been designated at the new terminal. SpiceJet passengers will utilize Entry Gate A on the ground floor, while IndiGo passengers will enter through Entry Gates 5 and 6 on the first floor. An exclusive arrival area on the ground floor will cater to all incoming passengers.
