Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi could see isolated heavy rainfall today, August 16, while parts of Rajasthan, particularly the western regions, are also on alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The monsoon season continues to dominate weather patterns across India, with widespread rainfall expected in various regions over the next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains on August 16 in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Gangetic West Bengal, and eastern Rajasthan.

In Delhi, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue until August 17. Several cyclonic circulations are also in play, promising a significant amount of precipitation, particularly in northwestern, central, and eastern parts of the country.
The northwest region, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, is likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till August 21.

Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are set to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall. The week could see heavy rainfall in West Madhya Pradesh today. East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also likely to experience heavy rainfall during this period, with isolated very heavy downpours expected in Chhattisgarh on August 16.

East India, including Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, is likely to see fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall. Heavy rainfall is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and other eastern regions on specific days. Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand are on alert for very heavy rainfall on August 16 and 17.
Northeast India, however, is expected to receive below-normal rainfall during the week, though isolated heavy rainfall may occur in some areas.
