The Vande Bharat Express, known for its speed and comfort, is set to launch a new route from Jamshedpur/Tatanagar in Jharkhand to Patna in Bihar on August 15. The train will run at a speed of 130–160 km/h and complete the entire journey in just six to seven hours. Presently, the trains take about 10–11 hours to cover the same distance.
The new Vande Bharat Express will provide a major boost to connectivity between Jharkhand and Bihar. At present, only chair-car facilities will be available on the train. This will be the second Vande Bharat Express service from Tatanagar. The first one is already operating between Ranchi and Howrah.

Preparations in Full Swing
Railway rakes have recently arrived in Chakradharpur, Jharkhand, indicating that preparations are in full swing for the upcoming route. A trial run was scheduled for August 10 to ensure that the train is ready for its inaugural journey. The Vande Bharat Express is committed to enhancing the overall travel experience by focusing on reducing travel time and increasing comfort for passengers.
Developing Tatanagar as a Key Maintenance Hub
Jamshedpur, also known as Tatanagar, is rapidly evolving into a crucial railway maintenance hub for the Vande Bharat Trains. To support this transition, trackside traction wires are being installed at Washing Line number 1 to facilitate proper washing and maintenance of the train coaches. Advanced equipment worth INR 22 crore is also being set up to ensure seamless operations.

Commencement of Regular Services
Following successful trials, the Vande Bharat Express is expected to commence regular services between Jharkhand and Bihar on August 15, 2024. Local staff are undergoing rigorous training to maintain the highest standards of safety and maintenance for the Vande Bharat coaches, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers.
Jharkhand Vande Bharat Express
Jharkhand’s first Vande Bharat Express started on the Ranchi-Patna route, which was flagged off on June 27, 2023. The second Vande Bharat Express between Ranchi and Howrah was flagged off on September 24 2023.
The PM Modi inaugurated the Ranchi-Bondamunda railway line and stalls under the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme at Ranchi, Hatia, Govindpur Road, Itki, Muri, Piska, Silli, Tangarbasuli, Tatisilwai stations, Barkakana, Ranchi Road and Pradhan Khanta stations.
