Rohit top-scored for India in the first ODI against Sri Lanka by making 58 runs from 47 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes.
Rohit Sharma made his return to competitive cricket after a month-long break on Friday (August 2) during the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka, which was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The right-handed batter looked in great touch, and he top-scored for India by making 58 runs. During his stay at the crease, the Indian captain faced 47 balls and scored seven fours and three sixes. However, his effort was not enough to help India win the match and go 1-0 up in the series.
During the first ODI, Rohit broke former England skipper Eoin Morgan’s record of most sixes in international cricket as captain and also became the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score 15,000 runs in international cricket as an opener.
He will be in action for India again on Sunday (August 4) during the second ODI and will have a chance to break a couple of more records.
If he manages to score at least two runs in the second ODI at R. Premadasa Stadium, then he will break former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid’s record and become the fourth leading run scorer for India in ODI cricket.
Rohit has 10,767 runs to his name in 263 ODIs played so far, whereas Dravid finished his career with 10,768 runs in 340 matches.
