Wayanad: Over 150 people are stranded at the famous Meppadi Resort amid landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad on Tuesday. After taking stock of the situation, PM Modi assured all help from the Centre. The development comes as a total of 225 Army personnel have been deployed for rescue operations in Kerala’s Wayanad as landslides claim 11 lives.
11 People Dead So Far, Toll Likely to Rise
At least 11 people have died and several have been feared injured after massive landslides hit the Meppadi area in Wayanad in the early hours of Tuesday. The statement said that the Army received a requisition for providing aid to civil authority on Tuesday morning. In response, the Army has mobilised four columns, including two columns ex 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and two ex the DSC Centre, Kannur.
150 People Stranded at Meppadi Resort
Over 150 people are currently stranded at the Tree Valley Resort in Meppadi and the resort had taken in some locals during last night’s heavy rains for safety. While everyone there is safe for now, they are facing a shortage of food.
The resort in a statement said that landslides have struck the area, with debris falling on top of at least 40 houses. Rescue teams are unable to reach the affected homes to assess the situation further.
24 Bodies Recovered From Incident Sites
Giving latest updates, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the search and rescue teams have recovered 24 bodies so far. She added that the injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals and said Chief Minister Vijayan was personally monitoring the situation and providing directives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern over the severe landslides in Wayanad on ‘X’ and assured that the Central government will provide all necessary assistance to address the situation.
