Three students died in the flooded basement of the coaching centre and their bodies were recovered after hours of rescue operation.
Following a period of intense rain in the central region of the capital city, a basement of a coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar was submerged, claiming the lives of three civil service aspirants. Shreya Yadav (from Uttar Pradesh), Nivin Dalwin (from Kerala), and Tanya Soni (from Telangana) drowned after a nearby drain broke, swiftly filling the basement with 10 to 12 feet of water, according to witnesses. Those inside had no time to escape. Now, a heart-stopping video has come to light, showing water rushing into the basement. It was uploaded on X (formerly Twitter) by a UPSC candidate.

The caption accompanying the read, “I’m one survivor of this horrible incident; within 10 minutes, the basement was filled.”
As per the caption, the stranded persons called the police and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at 6:40 PM but they only managed to reach after 9 PM. Till then, as per the user, the three aspirants had lost their lives. Additionally, three more are hospitalised.
People can be seen wading through knee-deep water in the footage. The video shows the raging water going through the staircase and potentially filling into the basement.
A user commented on the video in a satirical tone stating, “Wow, impressive work by the Delhi municipality! They really outdid themselves with that explosive drain and flooded basement. Truly a masterpiece!”

Seven people have been taken into custody by Delhi Police in connection with the incident.
Speaking with ANI, DCP Central M Harshavardhan confirmed that five additional suspects have been arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to seven. The individuals taken into custody include the owners of the basement and the driver of a vehicle that reportedly damaged the building’s gate.
According to reports, all of the floors in the flooded building have separate owners, and as a result, the basement owners have been detained. Speaking with News18, a few students claimed that the water flow was so intense that they could neither open the door nor the emergency exit.
