In 2023, Kartik Aaryan announced a new war film with Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor, marking a patch-up after their Dostana fallout. Directed by Sandeep Modi, filming was set to start in October. However, Bollywood Hungama has learned that Karan Johar has put his film with Kartik Aaryan on hold. A source close to the development told the publication, “There is an overdose of patriotic films set against the backdrop of wars. Karan has identified the market trends after Yoddha and has decided to put Sandeep Modi and Kartik Aaryan’s next on hold.”

Karan Johar has also paused another film. He was going to work with Salman Khan on Bull, directed by Vishnu Vardhan, but that project is now on hold. “Both Karan and Salman have officially moved on with the hope of collaborating in the future,” the source added.

In November last year, Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar finally buried the hatchet, two years after the casting controversy surrounding now-shelved movie Dostana 2. Karan Johar had taken to his official Instagram account to announce a movie with Kartik on the actor’s 33rd birthday. The film was to be co-produced by Ekta Kapoor.

In 2021, rumours about Kartik’s “unprofessional” behaviour upsetting Karan Johar surfaced online and it was said that the actor was no longer a part of Dostana 2. The film was supposed to star Kartik alongside Janhvi Kapoor and debutant Lakshya. Dharma Productions had announced Dostana 2 in 2019.

As for Bull, earlier, a source close to the same publicaton had mentioned that Karan Johar sought an extension from Salman until July, leading Salman to prioritise his collaboration with Sajid Nadiadwala and AR Murugadoss, which started in May 2024. “After a lot of back and forth on the dates, Karan and Vishnu were still not able to commit to the exact timelines of the shoot. That’s when Salman conveyed his decision to back out from the project. Salman politely informed his decision to Karan,” an anonymous source had revealed.
