Check EPF balance online: Simple steps to check your EPF balance via the UMANG app

Checking your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) balance is essential for staying updated on your retirement savings. There are multiple ways to check your EPF balance, including an offline SMS-based method. However, if you prefer checking your EPF balance online, you have two primary options: visiting the official Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) website or using the UMANG app. This guide will walk you through the process of using the UMANG app to check your EPF balance.

Pre-requisites for checking your EPF balance online

  • Your Universal Account Number (UAN)
  • Your mobile number registered with EPFO

Step-by-step guide to checking EPF balance using the UMANG app

Step 1: Download the UMANG App

  • Open the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Search for the ‘UMANG’ app.
  • Download and install the app on your device.

Step 2: Register on the UMANG App

  • Open the UMANG app after installation.
  • Register on the app using your mobile number or via ‘MeriPehchan’ or Digilocker.

Note: “MeriPehchan” is a National Sign-on-One citizen login for accessing multiple public services from various departments, according to the UMANG app.

Step 3: Search for EPFO Services

  • Once registered, locate the search bar at the top of the app.
  • Type ‘EPFO’ in the search bar and press enter.

Step 4: Access EPFO Services

  • You will see several EPFO-related services displayed.
  • Look for the ‘Service’ and ‘Department’ options.
  • Under ‘Service’, select ‘View Passbook’.

Step 5: Select Employee-Centric Service

After selecting ‘View Passbook’, you will see three options:

  • Employee-centric Service
  • General Service
  • Employer-centric Service
  • Click on ‘Employee-centric Service’.

Step 6: Enter Your UAN

  • A new page will open asking for your UAN number.
  • Enter your UAN number and click on ‘Login’.

Step 7: Verify with OTP

  • A new page will inform you that an OTP has been sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP received on your mobile and click on the ‘OK’ button.

Step 8: View Your EPF Balance

  • After entering the OTP, a new page will display your EPF passbook.
  • You can now view your EPF balance and other details.

Important points to remember

  • Ensure your mobile number is registered with the same UAN for which you are checking the passbook.
  • If your mobile number is not registered, you will encounter an error message, and the service cannot be used.
