Mumbai Rains: All Schools, Colleges CLOSED In Pune, Palghar, Pimpri Chinchwad After IMD Issues Orange Alert

Pune Collector Suhas Diwase has mandated the closure of schools in Pune city and adjacent areas due to the projected heavy rainfall. This directive extends to Pimpri Chinchwad, Bhor, Velhe, Maval, Mulshi, and Khadakwasla. Palghar has also shut down all schools and colleges following the IMD’s orange alert for the district.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Maharashtra, signaling the likelihood of intense rainfall. Mumbai has already been experiencing continuous showers, with more heavy downpours anticipated in the next two days. IMD has also issued a yellow alert specifically for Mumbai, forecasting moderate to heavy rain, and even very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.  Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Thane, Palghar, and Ratnagiri districts. In response to the situation, Pune Collector Suhas Diwase has mandated the closure of schools in Pune city and adjacent areas due to the projected heavy rainfall. This directive extends to Pimpri Chinchwad, Bhor, Velhe, Maval, Mulshi, and Khadakwasla. Palghar has also shut down all schools and colleges following the IMD’s orange alert for the district.

The weather bulletin from IMD also highlights the expected very heavy rainfall in Konkan, Goa (July 25-27), and Madhya Maharashtra (July 26-27).

Amid ongoing rains, the city has already clocked in nearly 80 percent of its annual average quota of rainfall. Data showed that between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the city sought respite in moderate showers with IMD’s Santacruz station recording 46 mm rain while the Colaba observatory registered 38 mm rain.

Visuals from Vile Parle and the Western Express Highway showed commuters making their way through the downpours. Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Maharashtra on Thursday and has predicted extremely heavy rainfall.

As per the BMC, Vihar Lake, one of the 7 lakes supplying water to the entire Mumbai metropolitan area, started overflowing at around 3.50 AM today. The full storage capacity of Vihar Lake is 2,769.8 crore litres (27,698 million litres).

3 people electrocuted in Pune amid heavy rains

Three people aged between 18-25 years were electrocuted to death at around 3 am today near Z bridge on Mutha river. The incident occurred when they were shifting their food stall due to rise in water level in Mutha river, Swapnali Joshi, Sr PI, Deccan Police informed.
