Mini has launched the all-new Cooper S hatchback in India, starting at Rs 44.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

Deliveries are set to begin in September. This fourth-generation model is the last combustion-engine version of the iconic hatchback, still holding onto the design spirit of the 1959 original.
The new Cooper S comes to India in its 3-door form, while a 5-door version and an all-electric Cooper S will be available globally later this year. The car features Mini’s classic design with circular headlights (now bezel-free) and a larger, new octagonal front grille.
The exterior ditches chrome, adds plastic cladding to the wheel arches, and keeps the iconic bulging front and rear fenders. The tail-lights have a fresh triangular shape, connected by a black plastic band on the tailgate.

The glasshouse design remains mostly unchanged, with blacked-out pillars giving the roof a floating effect. The new model sports cleaner front and rear bumpers, free from fog lamps and large air intakes. It rides on standard 17-inch wheels, with 18-inch wheels as an optional upgrade.
Inside, the Cooper S has a minimalistic design with no instrument cluster. The AC vents are integrated into the dashboard, and the centre console has a single band of toggle controls. The highlight is a new 9.4-inch round OLED touchscreen, which includes most car settings and HVAC controls, running Mini’s latest Android-based operating system developed with Samsung. The cabin features textured surfaces and a leather-free interior for sustainability.
Other interior features include a heads-up display, electrically adjustable front seats, a massage function for the driver, ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon sound system, connected car tech, six airbags, a Level 1 ADAS suite, and an electronic parking brake.

Under the hood, the Cooper S boasts a heavily updated version of its predecessor’s platform. It continues with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, now producing 204 bhp and 300 Nm, up from 178 bhp and 280 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, driving the front wheels, and claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 6.6 seconds.
While the Cooper S has no direct rivals in India as a 2-door premium hatchback, it will soon be joined by its electric sibling. The Cooper electric is based on a dedicated electric platform, distinct from the petrol version.
