The downpour since Saturday evening brought back woes for Mumbai and suburbs, with the Andheri subway being shut, waterlogging in Dadar East, Marine Drive and Lower Parel areas and the Mumbai Police issuing an advisory on Sunday.

Flight UK696 from Amritsar to Mumbai (ATQ-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) due to bad weather at Mumbai airport and is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12.15 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, for Sunday. According to Mumbai’s Regional Meteorological Centre, intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Thane, Mumbai and Palghar for the next three-four hours.
The Mumbai Police in a post on X said: “In view of the continuous and heavy rains in Mumbai, citizens are requested to avoid going to the coastal areas and move out of their house only if necessary. Take precautions and #Dial100 in case of emergency.”
Visuals of heavy rain and wind at Marine Drive surfaced on social media.
The railway workshop area in Lower Patel, too, was flooded. Parts of Kurla, too, witnessed waterlogging. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) disaster control room is monitoring the situation in Mumbai. Navi Mumbai, too, witnessed flooding.
CM Eknath Shinde in a post on X said: “The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in Konkan and some districts of the state including Mumbai today. In this background, the Chief Minister @mieknathshinde has given instructions that SDRF, District Administration, Police, Municipal Corporation, Municipalities, various local self-government bodies should be vigilant and help the citizens in all possible ways. The administration should plan and manage accordingly by taking information from weather department, disaster management unit from time to time about the situation. The Chief Minister has instructed everyone to be vigilant and ensure that no kind of trouble is created for the citizens.”

According to Mumbai’s Regional Meteorological Centre, active monsoon conditions are expected over most of Maharashtra for the next three-four days. Mumbai and suburbs are likely to witness heavy rain over 24 hours and moderate to heavy rain over the next 48 hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), central Maharashtra is likely to see heavy rain (orange alert) from July 21-24.
