What are the rules for changing name, address and date of birth on your Aadhaar card?

UIDAI oversees the entire process of Aadhaar enrolment and authentication, ensuring that residents can securely and easily access various services and benefits using their Aadhaar number.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology by the Government of India. It is responsible for your Aadhaar numbers, which are unique identification numbers assigned to residents of India. 

UIDAI allows updates to your Aadhaar card. However, there are specific rules for how many times you can change certain details such as your name, address, gender and date of birth.

Limits on changes

– Name: You can change your name on your Aadhaar card a maximum of two times.
– Gender and date of birth: Each can be updated only once in your lifetime.
– Address: There is no limit to the number of times you can update your address.

Process for changing name

To change your name, visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. Provide your Aadhaar number and fill out the enrolment form. Submit the necessary documents, and your biometric data will be taken for authentication. You will receive a receipt with a tracking number to monitor your update status. The fee for this service is Rs 50.

Process for changing the date of birth

Since the date of birth can only be changed once, it is advisable to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. Required documents include a PAN card, birth certificate, passport, or university-issued certificate. Fill out the correction form and provide your biometric details. After verification, your date of birth will be updated. This service also costs Rs 50.

Process for changing address

You can update your address online or by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre. Here’s how to do it online:

1. Go to the official UIDAI website: [myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in](https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/).
2. Login with your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
3. Select the ‘Aadhaar Update’ option from the top menu and proceed.
4. Choose ‘Address’ and fill in the new address details.
5. Upload valid address proof documents.
6. Complete the payment of Rs 50.
7. You will receive a receipt to track your update status, and a confirmation message will be sent once the address is updated.

Acceptable documents for address change

You can submit any of the following documents to update your address:

– Passport
– Bank statement or passbook
– Ration card
– Voter ID card
– Driving license
– Pensioner card
– Disability card
– Property tax receipt (not older than one year)
– Insurance policy (life or health)
– CGHS/ECHS/ESIC/Medi-claim card with photo issued by the State/Central Government/PSU
