Weather update: Monsoon is likely to be active in Peninsular and central India during the next 4-5 days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather update said that the monsoon trough is currently active and positioned further south than usual. This trend is expected to continue over the next 4-5 days, influencing weather patterns across the region. “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra & Kutch on 18th; Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka on 18th July and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during subsequent 3 days,” said IMD in a statement.
IMD has also predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19. Monsoon is likely to be active in Peninsular and central India during the next 4-5 days.

Delhi weather forecast
According to the IMD, Thursday is expected to be mostly cloudy with chances of moderate rain. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for today. Delhi is set to witness a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, which is approximately two degrees higher than the normal range. The morning minimum temperature was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius.

Met office issues yellow alert for Mumbai, orange for Thane
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in the city until July 19. Furthermore, the Meteorological Department has announced an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in Thane and Palghar districts today.
Across other parts of the state, an orange alert has been issued for Raigad, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara today, while a yellow alert is in effect for various areas including Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Buldhana, Amravati, Akola, Nanded, and Hingoli. A red alert has been issued for Ratnagiri today, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall possible in isolated areas.
IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rain in Himachal
Parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced intermittent rains yesterday, prompting the local Met office to issue a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rains in isolated areas across the state for the next four days. The meteorological department in Shimla has forecasted continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh until July 23.
The weather office also warned of potential damage to plantations, horticulture, and standing crops, as well as partial damage to vulnerable structures and kutcha houses due to strong winds and rain. Additionally, disruptions in traffic and waterlogging in low-lying areas were cautioned against.
Heavy rainfall alert for Kerala
The weather department has issued a red alert for Wayanad due to anticipated severe rainfall. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for the following eight districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, with predictions of extremely heavy rainfall in these areas.
Furthermore, a yellow alert has been announced for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Palakkad.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecasted for Andhra Pradesh
According to an official from the Visakhapatnam cyclone warning centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for north coastal Andhra Pradesh starting from Thursday. Srinuvas MD stated, “A low pressure area is likely to form over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19. We anticipate light to moderate rain over most of coastal AP, with heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in certain districts of north coastal AP including Eluru, Alluri Sitharama Raju, and Paderu from tomorrow onwards.” He added that heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours in north coastal AP, particularly in Alluri Sitharama Raju.
