Banks in various parts of the country are closed over Muharram/ Ashoora / U Tirot Sing Day, check the list of bank holidays for your states or city over here.

Banks will remain closed today, July 17, in different regions of the country on account of Muharram/Ashoora/U Tirot Sing day, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines. Banks have 12 holidays in July.

Muharram Bank Holiday

Banks in multiple Indian states will be closed on July 17, 2024 on the occasion of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and has a religious importance for Muslim community. It is observed in various states of India. On this day, all public and private banks in several states will remain closed.

U Tirot Sing Day Bank Holiday

U Tirot Sing Day is a regional festival in Meghalaya. The day is celebrated to recognise the memory of Tirot Sing, Khasi chief who fought against the British in the 19th century. He fought against the British attempts to take over control of the Khasi Hills. On July 17, people in Meghalaya pay tribute to Tirot Singh by organising cultural events, processions etc.

Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, and Srinagar.

Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha

Meghalaya will observe a holiday for U Tirot Sing Day on the same date. This state-specific holiday commemorates the legacy of U Tirot Sing, a prominent freedom fighter.

Online Banking Services On 17th July 2024

Customers can still use  ATMs, online banking, mobile apps, bank websites, and net banking to access banking services even though the bank is closed on these particular days.

The 12-day holiday in July will include national and regional holidays as well as Sundays, 2nd and 4th Saturdays.

Banks will also be closed on July 27 for the fourth Saturday, and on July 14, 21, and 28 for Sunday weekend leaves.
