Monsoon Alert: IMD issues yellow alert for Delhi, Mumbai; heavy rainfall likely in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and THESE states – Check weather forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of the country. IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rains over Tamil Nadu, Madhya Maharashtra, West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, Kutch, and South Interior Karnataka on Wednesday (July 17). Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated over the next 4-5 days. Monsoon activity is expected to remain active over Peninsular and Central India during this period.

Delhi weather forecast 

According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast, the weather department anticipates a mostly cloudy sky with moderate rainfall on Wednesday. The sky will be generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could drop to about 25 degrees Celsius. The capital city will be under a yellow alert for the next two days, indicating a “be aware” status in the IMD color code.

Yellow alert issued for Mumbai 

According to RMC Mumbai, heavy rainfall is expected to persist in the financial capital until July 19. In other cities across Maharashtra, the weather bureau has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in Pune, Kolhapur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Nagpur, and Yavatmal. Additionally, very heavy rains are forecasted today in Satara, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Odisha till July 20

IMD has predicted significant rainfall in Odisha over the next four days. According to a bulletin from IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is anticipated on Wednesday in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput due to a low-pressure area forming over southern Odisha and nearby regions.

Thursday could see downpours in various places across Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts, as per the IMD forecast. Additionally, another low-pressure area is expected to develop around July 19. The weather office further predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts on Friday and Saturday.

Heavy rain forecast for Andhra Pradesh till July 21

The Meteorological Department forecasted heavy rainfall and lightning in various parts of Andhra Pradesh starting from July 16 and continuing for five days. Heavy rain is expected in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP). Additionally, thunderstorms with strong surface winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph are anticipated in parts of NCAP, Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema.

Heavy rains lash parts of Kerala

The weather department has issued a warning of persistent heavy rainfall across the state for the next four days. An orange alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts for Wednesday.

Due to the ongoing heavy rains, district administrations in eight districts have ordered the closure of educational institutions on Wednesday. The districts affected by this decision are Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam. This closure applies to all educational institutions, including tuition centres, Anganwadis, and professional colleges.

Monsoon will remain active in parts of Rajasthan

The monsoon is expected to remain active across many areas of eastern Rajasthan over the next four to five days, with chances of heavy rainfall in Kota and Udaipur divisions. There is a possibility of increased rainfall on July 17-18, with potential for very heavy rains in some areas of Kota, Udaipur, and Ajmer divisions.

Meanwhile, rains are likely to persist in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions in western Rajasthan in the upcoming days. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in certain areas of Jodhpur division on July 17 and in the Shekhawati region on July 18.
