Devshayani Ekadashi Vrat 2024: Know Timings, Mantra To Chant And Rituals

Devshayani Ekadashi is considered significant for Lord Vishnu’s worship and fasting.

The period of Ekadashi Tithi is considered to be very auspicious in Hinduism. During this time, devotees engage in the worship of Lord Vishnu. When he is believed to go into a deep sleep, that period is known as Chaturmas. It begins on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, a favourable day, considered significant for Lord Vishnu’s worship and fasting. A renowned astrologer from Ayodhya gives more insight on the importance of the day and what rewards can be reaped. Pandit Kalki Ram, an acclaimed astrologer from Ayodhya, stated that Ekadashi will start from 8:33 pm on July 16 and will end on July 17 at 9:02 pm. The fast for Devshayani Ekadashi will be observed today, on July 17; while the time to conclude the fast will be from 5:32 am to 08:17 am on July 18.

It is believed that observing a fast on the day of Ekadashi Tithi pleases Lord Vishnu and he fulfils every wish of the devotees. It promises happiness and prosperity in a believer’s life. According to the scriptures, by repeatedly chanting the mantra Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Namah on this special day, the believer is free of any kind of fears, diseases or dosha.

Stating further, the astrologer revealed that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped along with Lord Vishnu. Engaging in their worship rids of any financial or economic problem one may be going through.

The Ekadashi vrat is considered a very powerful fast, as the devotees believe that it helps them reach salvation. They firmly believe that it will rid them of any sufferings and sins of the past. The devotees have to follow some rules during the fasting period. They should avoid plucking a tulsi leaf, avoid talking bad about others and eating food items like egg, onion, garlic and meat is strictly prohibited.
