Comprehensive Baggage Tracking Details

Passengers can access important information, including the current location and arrival details of their baggage. The tracking covers key points such as check-in, security clearance, aircraft loading, transfers, and baggage claim area arrivals. This end-to-end tracking capability is among the few offered by airlines worldwide directly to guests.

How It Works

Designed by Air India’s digital technology and design teams in collaboration with the airport operations department, the new feature allows passengers to track their bags by scanning the barcode on their baggage receipts. This information is also available in the ‘My Trips’ section of the mobile app once the bags are checked in. The feature can be accessed under the ‘Track Your Bags’ tab on the Air India website.

Real-Time Updates and Detailed Tracking

The real-time updates provide details about the current location, transit status, and baggage arrival along with local event times. The status coverage includes key baggage touchpoints like check-in, security clearance, aircraft loading, transfers, and baggage claim areas.

Tracking Across Multiple Flight Segments

End-to-end baggage tracking extends across multiple flight segments on Air India. If the journey includes segments from other airlines in interline or code-share connections within the same reservation, tracking is provided for those segments as well.

Comprehensive and User-Friendly Interface

For passengers with multiple checked-in bags, detailed tracking information for each bag is available on a single user-friendly interface. Timely notifications are provided via the mobile app when the baggage is checked in. Future enhancements will include notifications significant to the tracking experience, such as baggage carousel information on arrival.

Benefits and Future Enhancements

The real-time updates provide current locations, transit status, and baggage arrival details, making it easier for passengers to monitor their checked-in bags. The tracking extends to code-share and interline flights, ensuring seamless monitoring across multiple flight segments. Notifications, such as baggage carousel information on arrival, will further enhance the tracking experience.

“In our sustained efforts to enhance guest experience by embracing innovative digital technology, we can now provide real-time baggage status to our guests. This key customer-centric initiative marks a significant milestone in our transformation journey,” said Dr. Satya Ramaswamy, Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Air India. The mobile app is highlighted as the ideal platform for this feature, offering specific baggage information and easy tag addition using a mobile phone’s camera.
