Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places are very likely in Mumbai, IMD predicted for the next three days

A day after Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued ‘yellow alert’ for several parts of the city and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days.

The weather agency issued the alert for the next three days from July 12 to 14.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places are very likely in Mumbai,” said IMD issuing the alert.

HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY IN CENTRAL MAHARASHTRA & OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY

The latest IMD forecast has also said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka during July 12-15 and Goa during the next five days. Gujarat is also likely to witness isolated very heavy rains today.

The Met department added that fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep and Karnataka while scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Gujarat region, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Marathwada over the next five days.

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is also predicted over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and Rayalaseema during the next five days.

MUMBAI WITNESSED HEAVY RAINFALL ON MONDAY

Heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai, causing widespread waterlogging throughout the city causing disruption in local train services, bus routes, and flight operations. Due to the torrential downpours, schools and colleges in the city were shut on Monday.

Mumbai recorded 300mm of rainfall in 6 hours from 1 AM to 7 AM on Monday.

In view of the heavy rainfall, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, issued a red alert for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg on Monday. Additionally, RMC also issued a red alert for Pune and Satara.
