Indian Railways Planning To Have 110 Pantry Cars In Next 2 Years: Report

Within the period of 2024-25, around 55 pantry cars are expected to be produced.

Special arrangements are being made by the Indian Railways for the best food catering service for passengers, which would prove to be extremely convenient. The passengers who are unable to bring food or are simply hungry, have the option to avail it in the train. As per the new reports, efforts are being made for the production of pantry cars which are to be installed in trains, according to the requirements. More reports state that around 110 pantry cars are being made for the procedure. Deepak Kumar, who is the Northern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer, revealed in an interview that at the moment, premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Tejas trains are installed with pantry cars. The passengers travelling in the mentioned trains do not have to worry about food availability. According to more information, some express and superfast trains also have a pantry. Those travelling in special trains have to face difficulties with food, since food pantries are not available there.

The special trains are used during the occasions of Holi, Diwali, Raksha Bandhan and summer holidays, which means it does not run regularly. Because of the unavailability of a pantry, passengers have difficulty arranging food. So, they are forced to buy food items from vendors, selling around in trains. A lot of the time, these vendors sell the food without authorisation which is not only expensive but is made with bad quality.

Because of such a situation, the Indian Railways have taken the decision to develop 110 pantry cars in the next two years. Within the period of 2024-25, around 55 pantry cars are expected to be produced, while in the period 2025-26 another batch of 55 will be produced.

It is not possible for them to install pantry cars in every special train, stated Deepak Kumar. So, for other these special trains, vendor trains are installed outside the coaches on the platforms. It is a convenient way for the passengers to avail good food.
