The entire Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway will be equipped with the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) by July 1.

Karnataka is set to revolutionize its traffic management system with the introduction of an Intelligent Traffic Management System. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations effectively. The Bengaluru-Mysore road network will soon be equipped with cameras that can detect violations promptly. These cameras will enable authorities to take swift action against offenders. Additionally, the government plans to issue challans through Fastag for violations. To streamline the process further, toll gates will be linked to the Intelligent Traffic Management System, as per a report in goodreturns.in. This integration will ensure a seamless flow of traffic and facilitate efficient monitoring of vehicles.

Cameras and speed guns are slated to be installed along the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway to monitor traffic violations rigorously. Karnataka Police has already deployed 155 laser speed guns and 800 alcometers across the state to curb drunk driving.

Alok Kumar, ADGP of Traffic and Road Safety, has announced that the entire Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway will be equipped with the new system by July 1, goodreturns.in. reported.

The Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) was first introduced in Bengaluru in 2022, featuring 250 automatic number plate recognition cameras and 80 red light detection cameras strategically positioned at 50 key junctions across Mysore. This expansion cost approximately Rs. 8.5 crore, with Rs. 4 crore allocated for Mysuru city and Rs. 4.5 crore for the district, the report stated.

Real-Time Alerts and Monitoring

One of the key highlights of this system is the real-time SMS alerts sent to traffic violators, notifying them of their offenses. Alok Kumar told Deccan Herald that a traffic management center has been installed in Mysore. Traffic rule violators will begin to get SMS alerts in real time. Many areas are likely to be tracked with the assistance of cameras. He added, ITMS will be set up on all highways linking Bengaluru. The State Road Transport Authority has given its nod for this proposal. Tenders will be issued by the government in July for this.

Plans are underway to extend the ITMS technology to all highways connecting Bengaluru, with the State Road Transport Authority approving the proposal. The government is set to release tenders in July to facilitate the implementation of this system.

Integration with Fastag

In a bid to streamline the fine collection process, discussions are ongoing to integrate the challan system with Fastag at toll gates. This integration would allow fines to be deducted directly from the Fastag wallet, ensuring a more efficient and convenient payment mechanism. The ADGP is planning to seek approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for this integration, further enhancing the effectiveness of traffic management in Mysore.
