BCCI announces team India squad for T20I Zimbabwe tour, Shubman Gill named captain

Sanju Samson, yet to play in the T20 World Cup, will compete with Dhruv Jurel for a spot in the starting XI.

The BCCI announced the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe on Monday. The T20I series is starting on July 6.

A Men’s Selection Committee has selected a 15-player squad for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. India will visit Harare in the first week of July and participate in the T20I series against the hosts.

Shubman Gill is set to lead a revamped India team for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in early July, following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The squad includes only two players from the main T20 World Cup team: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson.

Players such as Gill, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who are reserves in the T20 World Cup touring party, have also been included in the squad.

Along with the familiar international names, the squad features maiden call-ups for Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande, all of whom had standout IPL 2024 seasons.

The team includes two primary spin options, Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar, with Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma available as part-time spinners.

The pace attack is led by Avesh Khan, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed. Nitish Reddy, who had an impressive season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, is another pace-bowling all-rounder who has been fast-tracked into the squad.
