It took 17 years for an Australian bowler to repeat Brett Lee’s feat of a T20 World Cup Hat-trick when Pat Cummins went three in three vs Bangladesh in their first T20 World Cup Super 8 fixture. But little would Cummins would not have expected to claim his second hat trick in the very next game, becoming the first player to claim back-to-back hat-tricks in a T20 World Cup.

Once again, split across two overs, Cummins removed Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan off the final delivery of the 18th over and then got the wickets of Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib off the first two deliveries of the 20th over to complete the remarkable feat. He could have had four in four had David Warner not spilled an easy catch – by his own standards – off the third delivery of the over, as Afghanistan tried to push for runs in the final over.

BLOW-BY-BLOW ACCOUNT OF PAT CUMMINS HAT-TRICK VS AFGHANISTAN
17.6 – WICKET! Pat Cummins to Rashid Khan: OUT! CAUGHT! Straight to the man and Pat Cummins has outsmarted Rashid Khan here. Cummins drops the pace down to 109 clicks and bowls it a bit into the pitch and at the batter. Rashid Khan comes down the pitch and looks to swat it over long on but he hits it flat and straight to Tim David who takes a safe catch.
19.1 – WICKET! Pat Cummins to Karim Janat: OUT! CAUGHT! Well taken in the end by Tim David as he almost misjudged that one completely. Pat Cummins goes into the surface a bit and bowls it at the batter, Karim Janat comes forward and looks to heave it away but gets it high on the bat and over wide mid on. David comes in a bit too much but adjusts and just takes it over his head.
19.2 – WICKET! Pat Cummins to Gulbadin Naib: OUT! CAUGHT! Would you believe it? Back-to-back T20 World Cup hat-tricks for Pat Cummins and unlike the last game, Cummins is well and truly aware of it this time, sensational stuff. This is bowled on a hard length around middle and angling in, Gulbadin Naib has a swipe across the line but doesn’t get much distance on it and the ball travels over mid-wicket. Glenn Maxwell comes in from the deep and takes a simple catch.
19.3 DROPPED! Pat Cummins to Nangeyalia Kharote: DROPPED! Should have been four in four for Pat Cummins but David Warner has shelled that catch. Banged in well short and angled across the left-hander, Nangeyalia Kharote reaches out and looks to upper cut but doesn’t get the timing right. Warner comes in but the ball is dipping and he ends up spilling it. Just the single is taken.
