The electric car market is at a nascent stage in India with only a handful of pocket-friendly options, like the Tata Tiago.ev, Tata Tigor.ev, Tata Punch.ev, Tata Nexon.ev, Mahindra XUV400, Citroen E-C3 and MG ZS EV. All these models are available at a starting price of less than Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the most affordable electric car in India is the MG Comet EV.
The MG Comet EV price starts at Rs 6.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.53 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric car has garnered sales of 4,493 units in 2024 (from January to May) with impressive sales of 1,200 units last month.
The MG Comet EV comes with a 42PS/110Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is clubbed with a 17.3kWh lithium-ion battery, which is IP67-rated.
The electric car takes 7 hours to charge from 0 to 100% using a 3.3kW charger. With a 7.4kW charger, a 0-100% charge can be achieved in 3.5 hours. The MG Comet EV range is claimed to be 230km on a single full charge.

The MG Comet EV packs a powerful punch when it comes to features. There are LED headlamps and taillamps, an illuminated MG logo at the front, and front and rear connecting lights. Inside the cabin, you get features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel.
