ED challenges bail to Arvind Kejriwal: ‘Not given fair opportunity to oppose’

ED goes to Delhi High Court against bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in liquor policy case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday challenged the bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case linked to the now scrapped excise policy, seeking a stay on the order before the Delhi High Court.

The matter was brought before a vacation bench comprising Justices Sudhir Kumar Jain and Ravinder Dudeja. A separate vacation bench of Justice Nyay Bindu allowed bail to Kejriwal on Thursday while also declining the ED’s request for a 48-hour stay on the order.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, representing the ED, argued that the agency was not given a fair opportunity to present its case. “We have not got a fair opportunity to oppose. My arguments were curtailed before the vacation judge. We haven’t been given the option of a rejoinder also,” Raju said.
