Kamal Haasan is playing the role of Kali, a villain, in Kalki 2898 AD. He shares the screen with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas.
Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan opened up about playing Kali, the villain in Kalki 2898 AD. The trailer released earlier this month gave fans a sneak peek at his character. The actor has now revealed he always wanted to play a villain. In a press conference in Mumbai, Kamal said he spent sizable time with director Nag Ashwin into coming up with the look for the film. Kamal will be seen opposite Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in the film.

“I was mourning to Amit ji in the backstage that I always wanted to play the bad man. The bad man gets to do all the good things in films. Where the heroes are singing romantic songs and waiting fort he heroine, I thought I am going to play the bad man so it is going to be fun. (Nag) wanted it to be different so I am almost like a sage with a bad idea,” Kamal said.
The actor couldn’t stop raving about Nag Ashwin. Speaking about his first reaction to the script, Kamal said, “I am used to these kind of ordinary looking people who do extraordinary things. My boss, my mentor (Tamil director K. Balachander) was one such man and he looked like a government official. The first thing he enters in the house, you will think there’s an income tax raid. But I have seen what he is capable of, the kind of films he did. So I don’t underestimate these ordinary looking guys. They have a depth to them that doesn’t show until you talk to them and I did have the opportunity of talking to him (Nag Ashwin) — a man of few words.”
“This guy knew how to present an idea which, as Amit ji said, make you ask ‘what have you been smoking or drinking’. That’s how great ideas are formed. Ordinary people will doubt it and then start respecting it. I could see a bit of that,” Kamal added.
Kalki 2898 AD is set to release on June 28.
