The IMD has warned that an intense heatwave is expected to occur in several parts of Uttar Pradesh from June 18 to June 19.
There is likely to be no respite from severe heatwave conditions over many parts of North India for today as per the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest bulletin. However, it is expected to lower its intensity after that because of an approaching Western Disturbance in the direction of Northwest India. On the contrary, extremely high rainfall will continue to take place over Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the upcoming two days.
Heatwave conditions to prevail in North India
An intense heatwave has been warned in several parts of Uttar Pradesh from June 18 to June 19. Bihar and isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh will encounter a hot spell for today. The intensity of the scorching heat is likely to decrease thereafter. Similar weather conditions are projected over north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, in some portions of Jammu & Kashmir and north Madhya Pradesh on June 18.

Extremely heavy rainfall prediction
The IMD in its press release has identified a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam in the lower tropospheric levels. Under this influence, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam Meghalaya from June 18 to June 19. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to experience it on June 19 whereas today, exceptionally heavy rainfall is projected to occur in Meghalaya.
Southwest Monsoon Progress
The Met Department has announced in its weather report, that the Southwest Monsoon is extending further into parts of Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Northwest Bay of Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, and remaining portions of Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the next three days.

IMD’s alert for light rain with thunderstorms
A Western Disturbance as a channel is identified in the mid-tropospheric westerlies. As a result of these particular weather conditions, it is expected that there might be isolated to light rain along with thunderstorms and lightning over Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Gilgit, Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan from June 18and it will last till June 20. The Weather Department has also warned that there could be strong surface winds over Northwest India for the next four days.
