Delhi Jal Board office vandalised by some unidentified persons in Chhatarpur area on Sunday.
New Delhi: Amid the severe water crisis in the national capital and the ongoing battle to deal with the critical situation, unidentified individuals vandalized the Delhi Jal Board office located in the Chhatarpur area on Sunday. The incident occurred as Delhi is grappling with one of the worst water crises amid the boiling hot weather. Earlier in the day, the BJP’s Delhi wing staged a protest against the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi Government over the ongoing water crisis in the capital city. The protesters alleged that senior officials, including some from the Delhi government, are running a “tanker mafia”.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva stated that the Jal Board was in profit when Arvind Kejriwal became the chief minister of the capital city. “He was given charge of the DJB as chairman for over one year. It is strange that audit report of that more than one year is missing and the DJB is in huge debt,” he said, alleging that AAP ministers are running tanker mafia in Delhi.

Notably, AAP and BJP are blaming each other for the acute water shortage in Delhi. On the other hand, the Delhi Government claimed that Haryana government has stopped the water meant for the national capital. Countering the allegation, the saffron party has alleged that CM Kejriwal-led government is committing another scam after “liquor case”.
Meanwhile, Delhi Water Minister Atishi wrote a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner urging patrolling at major pipelines in order to protect them.
“I am writing to request deployment of police personnel to patrol and protect our major pipelines for the next 15 days to stop miscreants or people with ulterior motives from tampering water pipelines which have now become Delhi’s lifelines. At this juncture any foul play and sabotage will worsen the already difficult water shortage being faced by the people of Delhi,” the Minister’s letter read.

”Our maintenance team worked for 6 hours continuously and repaired the leakage, but this meant that we had to stop pumping of water for 6 hours and 20 MGD of water was not pumped during this time. As a consequence a further 25 per cent of water shortage will be experienced in South Delhi.”
