The highly anticipated sleeper version of the Vande Bharat trains is set to be launched before August 15, 2024. The train will undergo trials upon hitting the tracks and is expected to commence commercial operations within six months. According to railway officials, the manufacturing of the India-made train is almost done and it is currently receiving final adjustments in preparation for its debut.
Vande Bharat trains are semi-high-speed indigenous trains that have made headlines during both previous terms of the Narendra Modi government. The trains are successfully running on multiple routes with chair car facilities. Officials said the sleeper version is a requirement to launch the trains on longer routes.

Concept pictures shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw suggest that the comfort in the sleeper version of Vande Bharat will be at the next level compared to the traditional trains of Indian Railways. Seat cushions, ladders for upper berths, and leg space are some factors that have been considered while designing the spaces.
Railway officials said that Vande Bharat sleeper trains are also part of the 100-day plan of the Modi government 3.0. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is personally monitoring the project. The officials further indicated that the Vande Bharat metro will also be rolled out very soon.
Vande Bharat, previously known as Train 18, has a maximum operational speed of 160 km/h. The first Vande Bharat train was launched in 2019, and since then, it has received a lot of appreciation for its high-end features and comfort. The first Vande Bharat was launched on the New Delhi to Varanasi route.
