Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s warm ‘Namaste’ greetings at the G7 Summit, hosted in the Apulia region, has taken the internet by storm. The video of Meloni respectfully greeting various leaders with the traditional Indian gesture went viral, sparking joy among netizens. One user’s comment, ‘Meloni Namaste karna sikh gayi’ (Meloni learnt the Namaste gesture), encapsulated the positive reception. In the past, the bonhomie between PM Modi and Meloni have created a buzz on the internet with netizens eager for their meeting at the summit. Some netizens believed that this was “Modi’s magic”. A user wrote, “Eagerly waiting for Modi and Meloni to come together.”

Users hailed her display of the Indian way of greeting people and wrote, “Namaste goes Global. Italian PM Giorgia Meloni greets guests of the G7 summit with Namaste”.

“That’s such a nice gesture. It shows our culture being celebrated,” a user shared.

Meanwhile, a user offered a scientific explanation for the namaste gesture.

“It is the most scientific way to greet, when we say I bow to the god in you. No transfer of bacteria from one hand to another, while shaking your hand,” the user said.

PM Modi Arrives In Italy For G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Apulia, southern Italy, to attend the Outreach session of the G7 Summit and hold bilateral talks on a wide range of issues with world leaders on Friday. As PM Modi touched down at Brindisi Airport in Apulia, he was received by India’s Ambassador to Italy, Vani Rao, and other officials. This marks PM Modi’s first trip abroad after assuming office for the third consecutive term.

It will be India’s 11th participation and PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation at the G7 Summit.
